Remeron Addiction And Abuse

Remeron Addiction And Abuse

Antidepressants like Remeron are often used to treat depression and anxiety conditions. Even though the drug isn’t thought to be addictive, it is still abused because it makes people feel better and calms them down.

Understanding Remeron (Mirtazapine)

If you need to get an antidepressant medication, Mirtazapine is known by the brand name Remeron. It is a Tetracyclic Antidepressant (TeCA). Remeron is mostly recommended to treat major depression disorder (MDD), but it is also sometimes used to treat generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety. Changing the amounts of neurotransmitters in the brain and keeping the chemicals in the central nervous system in balance is how the drug works. The drug is usually taken by patients for 40 weeks at a time. It is suggested that the first amount of Remeron pills be 15 mg per day, taken in one sitting, ideally before bed.

Remeron Effects And Abuse

Remeron can make people feel better about their mood, sleep, and hunger, and it can also make them less worried. Besides these positive effects, the drug can also have a number of negative effects that could be dangerous. Some of these side effects are minor to serious and can be any of the following:

  • Weight gain
  • Drowsiness
  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Body aches
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Strange dreams

There have been reports of other dangerous side effects while taking Remeron, such as a higher chance of suicide, changes in behavior, and more sadness. Patients of all ages who have major depressive disorder may have their sadness get worse or have suicide thoughts in the beginning stages of treatment. During treatment, there have also been reports of more worry, restlessness, panic attacks, anger, and aggression. Serotonin syndrome is a very dangerous illness that can happen to very few people. When too much remeron is taken or when it is mixed with other drugs that also raise serotonin levels, the disorder can show up.

These bad side effects are also more likely to happen if the drug is overdone. When a person takes drugs without a prescription or in a way that isn’t clearly directed, like taking more than the recommended dose or mixing the drug with alcohol, this is called drug abuse. Remeron doesn’t give people a happy high like most other drugs do, but people still abuse it because it makes them feel better and calms them down. Many people take more of the drug than they are supposed to in order to feel the effects faster or to counteract the effects of stimulant drugs like cocaine. This kind of diverted use raises the risk of major problems like stomach cramps, seizures, and brain function. It is also not recommended to mix Remeron with other antidepressants, especially Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), because each one makes the other more sleepy. This mix can make the chance of bad responses much higher.

Signs Of Remeron Addiction

Most antidepressants, including Remeron, are not thought to be dangerous. However, the drug can cause physical dependence. If someone tries to lower their amount or stop taking Remeron altogether, they will start to feel uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. This is why some people keep taking the drug even though they want to stop. Rebound sadness, anger, nausea, dizziness, puking, dreams, headaches, and paresthesia (a prickling, tingling feeling on the skin) are all signs of withdrawal. People who experience these symptoms may become addicted and dependent on the drug. As they build up a tolerance, they take more and more of it to avoid the painful effects of withdrawal.

Some signs that someone might be addicted to Remeron are:

  • Using Remeron for longer than recommended
  • Needing more and more of the drug to get the same benefits
  • Spending most of the day thinking about Remeron—how to get more, what affects it has, and when to use it.
  • Inability to stop taking the medicine
  • Forgetting symptoms to get Remeron doses
  • Changes in behavior, cleanliness, and looks all of a sudden

If someone is addicted to Remeron and takes too much of the drug, they could also overdose. An excess of Remeron can lead to serious health problems like seizures, heart failure, and dangerously low blood pressure. In the worst situations, breathing problems and even death can happen. Chest pain, dizziness, puking, a fast heartbeat, slurred speech, trouble breathing, and being very sleepy are all signs of an overdose. When Remeron is mixed with other drugs, especially booze or benzodiazepines, the risk of overdose goes up by a lot. Putting these two drugs together can make you very sleepy and slow down your breathing, but a lot of people who abuse Remeron do it anyway to get more high.
